What is UCAT Decision Making?

UCAT Decision Making is designed to assess your ability to apply reasoning and logic to a problem, and your ability to evaluate different arguments. In this section of the UCAT you’ll be provided with scenarios and asked to logically assess the options to select the best answer.

Why is Decision Making assessed?

As a doctor, you will be faced with many complex situations that will require you to make difficult decisions. This will involve dealing with uncertainty and assessing situations logically to solve problems. Decision Making therefore assesses these skills.

In Decision Making, you may be presented with graphs, tables or charts. The question formats differ: some will have four answer options with one correct answer; others will require you to respond to five statements with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to each statement given.

Similarly to Quantitative Reasoning, you will be able to use the on-screen calculator for Decision Making. You can also use your booklet and pen to help you.
